Rose Bay Wharf
When traveling west of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, you’ll come across Rose Bay Wharf. Interestingly, this area is home to two wharfs: Rose Bay Wharf and Rose Bay Ferry Wharf. As the name suggests, Rose Bay Ferry Wharf is specifically designed for ferry services that cater to commuters. At this location, you can find important amenities such as seating areas, information boards, and ticketing services. All of these are intended to provide a comfortable and convenient environment for passengers. Additionally, there are pleasant cafes and shops nearby, where travellers can enjoy a cup of coffee or grab a snack before starting their journey.
Watsons Bay

Situated on the northern side, it is one of Sydney Harbour’s most stunning public wharves. The wharf is located in protected waters and is classified as “Independent Access” by Transport for NSW. This designation ensures that there are facilities available to accommodate groups with specific needs, such as wheelchair access. If you’re in need of supplies, the closest shops are approximately a pleasant 12-minute walk along Avenue Road. Alternatively, if you want to stop for a quick coffee, Cafe Monstera is located right there on the wharf. They are known for their great coffee.
Taronga Zoo Wharf
Next on our list of favourites is Taronga Zoo Wharf, which provides a variety of facilities. These include a Kiss and Ride stopping area, bike racks, an emergency help point, a payphone, and more. Additionally, this location has been classified as “Independent Access” by the NSW Government, which means it offers amenities such as a wheelchair ramp boarding assistance, a hearing loop, and a PA system for announcements.
Lavender Bay Boat Ramp
Let’s move on to our third favourite pick-up spot in the Lower North Shore – the lovely Lavender Bay Boat Ramp. This charming wharf is a go-to choice for small and mid-sized parties, conveniently located in North Sydney. However, the wharf lacks a covered waiting area. Therefore, for people who prefer to be out of the sun or who want to await pick-up in a comfy waiting room, one of Sydney’s public wharfs such as the North Sydney Wharf might be a better choice.
Parramatta River Boat Pick Up Locations
Greenwich Point Wharf
Just like the Lower North Shore Boat pick-up locations, the Parramatta River has its own collection of public access points that are worth exploring. Among these, we have carefully selected three of our favourites to highlight. First on our list is Greenwich Point Wharf, a charming and increasingly popular spot for pick-ups and drop-offs, particularly for groups residing in Greenwich and the surrounding neighbourhoods. It’s worth noting, however, that Greenwich Point Wharf currently doesn’t offer many facilities or amenities. Therefore, it’s advisable to come well-prepared and bring along all the essentials you’ll need for your cruise. Remember to pack items such as ice, drinks, sunblock, and delicious food, as last-minute dashes for supplies might result in unexpected delays.
Balmain Wharf
Second on our list is Balmain Wharf on Thames Street. This particular wharf is highly popular among medium-sized boat owners, thanks to its convenient water access. What makes Balmain Wharf even more appealing is its close proximity to a variety of restaurants, bars, and shops, all within easy walking distance. Despite its popularity, Balmain Wharf manages to maintain a pleasant level of activity without becoming overly crowded. Additionally, it offers a relatively sheltered location, ensuring a comfortable experience for all.
Rhodes Boat Ramp
Now let’s move on to the third and final spot on our list: the Rhodes Boat Ramp. You’ll find this hidden gem situated just before the bridge on the left side. One of the standout features of Rhodes is its modern floating pontoon, which adds a touch of convenience to the ramp. While you may come across the occasional passing ferry, one of the perks of this location is the relatively lower amount of private boat traffic compared to bustling spots like Putney and Woolwich. However, it’s important to keep in mind that parking here can be a bit tricky, as there are only about 13 bays available. To secure yourself a spot, it’s always a good idea to arrive early and avoid the disappointment of missing out.
Lane Cove River Boat Pick Up Locations
Woolwich Boat Ramp
Now, let’s set our course towards the Lane Cove River Boat Pick-Up Locations, where we have carefully identified a few free public spots that are worth highlighting. Among our favourites is the Woolwich Boat Ramp, conveniently situated next to the Woolwich Marina. This ramp boasts a decent floating pontoon, which adds to its appeal. However, it’s important to note that the ramp itself is exposed to waves, leaving you susceptible to the wake generated by passing boats. This can make loading and unloading your boat a bit challenging.
Hunters Hill
Next on our list is the Hunters Hill Wharf, positioned on the south bank of the Lane Cove River. It sits directly across from Longueville. While there are one or two small shops in the vicinity, such as the Garibaldi Village Square shopping centre, it’s important to note that the closer shops cater to specific needs. So, if you find yourself in need of last-minute essentials you may have to venture a bit further away.
Riverview / Burns Bay Reserve Boat Ramp
One more spot worth mentioning if you’re seeking a peaceful atmosphere is the Riverview Boat Ramp at Kooyong Rd, Riverview. While this ramp offers a tranquil experience, it’s important to consider a few aspects. The road leading to the ramp may be narrow, and the ramp itself is designed as a single lane. Additionally, the flow of the ramp requires a turnaround just before reaching it, which may not be ideal if you have a large trailer boat. Moreover, parking options are limited, with only four trailer parking spots available next to the ramp. However, despite these factors, there is a silver lining. The popularity of this ramp means that securing a spot during weekends can be a bit challenging, but on weekdays, you might have a better chance of finding one. So, if you’re up for a quieter boating experience, the Riverview Boat Ramp can be a delightful option
Middle Harbour Boat Pick Up Locations
Tunks Park Boat Ramp
We’ve made our way to Middle Harbour, and we have two fantastic spots for you to explore. First up is the Tunks Park Boat Ramp, which offers nearby parking for your car and trailer, along with ample space for maneuvering. However, please keep in mind that weekend sport can make parking very busy in the area. Nonetheless, the Tunks Park Boat Ramp is suitable for all tides and can be accessed via a narrow winding road. You’ll be pleased to find that both the boat ramp and jetty are in excellent condition, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience.
Davidson Park Boat Ramp – Roseville Bridge
Lastly, we have the Davidson Park Boat Ramp located on Warringah Road. This boat ramp truly stands out as one of the best ramps you’ll find on Sydney Harbour, offering a range of impressive facilities. What makes it so special? Well, for starters, it features dual launching ramps, each equipped with a floating pontoon positioned right in the middle. That’s not all – there’s also a third launching bay and a convenient public wharf right next to it, making it a breeze to pick up and drop off passengers. When it comes to parking, please note that there is a fee, but don’t worry – there’s plenty of space available for cars with trailers.
North Harbour Boat Pick Up Locations
Manly Wharf
We’ve finally reached the last part of this article: Middle Harbour. There’s one particular spot that we can’t miss mentioning – The Manly Wharf. This heritage-listed passenger terminal and recreational area, located at West Esplanade, offers a great opportunity to enjoy a drink at the waterfront bars. To make the most of your visit, we recommend taking a journey in the late afternoon. This timing allows you to witness the stunning sunset over the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
